Third Year starting points – Clay models

I decided to make use of my time on my first day back by grabbing some clay from Ceramics and ‘drawing’ out one of my ideas with it. I had none of my artist materials with me that day so I thought clay would be a good start as always. I sometimes find it’s even more helpful than a drawing for a reference point and it opens up new avenues of work (other than 2 dimensional stuff.)

My current plan for my final year’s work is basically a plan for my end of year show: I plan to make a series of cut out paintings which fit together like puzzle pieces and display them in a line along a wall, these paintings will be based on the dreams and memories of myself and others, sort of like a ‘wall of consciousness.’

These small sculptures are based on a memory of mine from when I was about four years old…

They seem quite bizarre right now but I don’t want to drop them as an idea, I think I should embrace the humour they have. However, I am concerned they won’t fit in with my other ideas. I’m trying to keep an open mind and stay aware of the fact that my ideas could change, the important thing is to keep making work.
